A while back we were fortunate to receive a booking to dine at the recently refurbished Stokehouse restaurant in Melbourne. I absolutely love the new fit out and concept of Stokehouse, offering three different areas to enjoy the the seaside views. There’s now Paper Fish a take away Fish and Chips joint, Pontoon on the ground level which used to be the Stokehouse Cafe and Stokehouse as the fine dining option upstairs. From upstairs, you will never be disappointed as the new ceiling to floor windows all around allows for uninterrupted views from wherever you sit. The aesthetics of the restaurant was indeed truly impeccable – from the pastel shades throughout, sheer white curtains and chandeliers of plastic pipes, all adding to the beach side vibe. A favourite feature is the outdoor bar area overlooking the beach with couches and bar stools, the perfect outdoor area for pre-dining drinks.
On to what we ordered! For Entrees we ordered the Saltwater Ceviche from the Raw Bar and the Grilled Octopus. Both were delicious as expected, the ceviche in particular was my favourite with all the right amount of flavours of lime and spices. For Mains I ordered the classic ‘Fish and Chips’ lightly battered King George whiting with the perfect portion of triple cooked chips and seaweed salt to top it off. It was definitely not your ordinary order of Fish and Chips! Mr P went for the Chargrilled pork scotch with compressed melon that was perfectly cooked for his liking, and was accompanied well with his glass Negroni. The compressed melon complimented the dish well, adding a refreshing factor to the chargrilled pork scotch; however we still ordered a side of Heirloom tomatoes. Overall, the quality of the food, service and atmosphere was exceptional!
