Magic Mountain Saloon has been on my list of places to go for ages! It was just a few weeks ago we came here for one of my work lunch breaks for a ‘double date’ and it was definitely worth it. Such a great atmosphere filled with a bunch of friendly yet quirky people. I loved every bit of the place, particularly the upstairs dining area that had spacious seating booths (perfect for a double dates), sleek marble bench tops and an open balcony overlooking Little Collins Street – definitely a place to come back for dinner! On top of all this the food was indeed highly satisfying. It was a mix of modern Australian food and Thai but with its own twist. For someone who absolutely loves Thai food or basically anything spicy, zesty with a heap of flavours; the dishes here fulfilled those all to the tee. Across both visits here we ordered a pretty decent variety of dishes. For Appetizers we ordered the Ham Hock Croquettes that was complemented extremely well with the plum sauce – it may look small but was pretty filling for an appetizer. For Mains we went for the Papaya Salad which is one of my favourite dishes anywhere, Sticky Beef Ribs that was BBQ based with hints of chilli here and there but overall was more of Mr P’s choice and Rice Noodle with Peking Duck which we were warned was very spicy but nonetheless ridiculously flavoursome mixed with a bunch of vegetables. We ordered a Curry pot as well but I can’t exactly remember the name and I didn’t actually have much of it (The photo of this isn’t that great!). Last but not least, my favourite dish at this place which has been ordered on both occasions is the Calamari with Bone and Pork Bone Marrow. It’s one of the most filling dishes with powerful flavours like the spice of the chilli, lemon zest, hints of garlic and most of all full of meat! Highly recommended dish!
